L.I.I.A.R evaluation of my music magazine
2.
L:
Masthead: my masthead is going to be possibly one of the most noticed on my front cover. It must be produced in a big font and done boldly. This is so it is one of the first things that the reader will see when looking at the cover. The name of the masthead will not contain too many letters, so it will be short and snappy, also very catchy. This is so it is a name easy to remember. The masthead must be easily noticeable and produced in a readable font.
Main image: My main image on the products I create will also have to be very noticeable. In order to make it clearly seen it will most probably have to take up the majority of the front cover. The shot I have been told to use and would be best to use on my music magazine is a MCU (medium close up). A MCU is usually a shot from the shoulders upwards. The reason I will be using this shot is so the face(s) of the person/people on the front cover stand out to the readers. I will also make the people on the front cover look directly at the camera. This is so when a member of public is looking at the front cover the person that is on the front cover looking at the camera will automatically catch the eye of the reader and draw them to the main image which is one of the most important features of the front cover.
House style of magazine: On my magazine cover and running through to the contents I will ensure that I keep the house style running throughout. I will do this by:
- Ensuring that the font I deem appropriate to use will be kept the same throughout.
- That the colour/colours I choose to use will be kept the same on the cover and in the contents. I will make sure that the colours that I choose to use will be very bright. This is in order to make the magazine stand out as well as possible and catch the eye of the reader. To catch the eye of the member of public or whoever is reading it will be the main target for me when I am producing music magazines.
The reason I will be doing this will be in order to keep the magazine looking professional.
Other features on the cover and contents:
- Another feature that will appear on my front cover are thumbnail images. Thumbnail images are extremely important on most magazines. This is basically because they do the job of giving hints of what sort of articles and stories that will be published in the magazine. The thumbnail images may go on the front cover or in the contents, I have seen examples where they are in both or one or the other.
- The price of the magazine will be in the top right corner beneath my magazine masthead. This is because as it is on the shelf in a shop the top right corner will be the part of the magazine that will be seen by the public. The price being shown is very important because as my price will be respectable for a good quality magazine people are more likely to pick it up if it is cheaper.
- Due to there being a price to the magazine there will have to be a barcode to be scanned. The barcode will most likely be placed in the bottom right hand corner of the magazine. This is so it is of the way of the main features of the magazine. I will have quite a small barcode so it does not take up a lot of space on the magazine. I don’t want it to take up too much space as it is not one of the most important features on the magazine.
- Another thing that is seen on most popular and successful magazines is a competition to be entered or a prize to be won that is to be won by buying the magazine or it will also be advertised inside. This will make the member of public want to buy the magazine as the it will be a good prize to be won. On my magazine I will most probably place this on the front cover at the very top of the cover above the masthead, this will be a thin strip. I will probably do an advert for a holiday to a tropical resort to be won. This is a great tease device to make a person buy the magazine.
- The main article that is written on the front cover in bold again will definitely relate to the main image. This will be done as the boldness of the writing will match to the size of the image and people that read/buy the magazine will automatically pick up that the two match.
I:
For this production I am producing a magazine for an existing magazine company. I feel there is a space in this magazine company for a music magazine, this is why I will produce one for this topic. I also feel that I will have to live up to the expectations of what has already been produced. It will be pressurised as I have looked into existing magazines in this company and have seen some very classy and professional magazines produced under the categories of sport, food and fashion etc. I feel that to have a music magazine in a magazine company is important. It is a very popular topic within the public and I think that people will be likely to buy a music magazine. In order to make the magazine as successful as some of the ones already made, I will have to do some research into some existing magazines and evaluate which music genre is the most popular. At the minute I think I will aim my magazine at teenagers and do an R&B genre.
I:
I will have my target audience as teenagers, and have the music genre as R&B. The two link together nicely as the R&B genre is really up beat music and the charts at the minute are full of this kind of music. This is good because teenagers are always checking up on the charts and most teenagers listen and admire the music that is in the charts. I think the fact that the music genre I will be doing is R&B will give me the chance to express and send out the message that it is a fun and exciting genre. The way I will send out this message is by using bright and exciting colours on the front cover, this will link back to how fun and exciting the music genre I am using actually is. On the other hand if I was to be doing a music magazine on the genre rock, I would use more dark colours as that is the sort of atmosphere there is when you listen to that type of music.
A:
The target audience I have chosen to aim my magazine at is teenagers. This is to link well with the music genre I will base my magazine on, which will be R&B. My target audience will also be a mixed gender as both boys and girls are up to date and interested in R&B music that is in the charts.
R:
By doing a music magazine based on R&B, I think that this will automatically send out a positive message of my target audience. This is because most people are aware that this type of music is rather up beat and interesting. The features of this music link to a positive message. I also think that having teenagers as the target audience, then producing a magazine on R&B is rather accurate in the teenagers taste of music.
